School-Based Services

“We take the services to the students, which decreases access issues and makes it possible to place a caring therapist in the life of every hurting child.”

School Based Outpatient Services is a “mission-driven” program which helps students discover their greatness by providing traditional outpatient therapy within the school walls. Our part-time and full-time school based therapists work directly within area schools and provide mental health therapy to elementary and secondary level students. Our therapists radiate a passion which says, “I’m here to help this child!”

Who Can Receive Services?

This service targets students with emotional and/or behavioral needs. Students can be referred for services by either school personnel and/or parents. Funding for this program is insurance based. Medical Assistance is accepted at every location with some schools also accepting specific commercial insurances. Students who receive services in this program become clients of Pennsylvania Counseling Services (PCS). PCS School based therapists maintain the same confidentiality standards of traditional outpatient therapists.

“This is a valuable service providing support to the students, the caregivers and the school system.”
- Pattie Salvo-Holder, PCS School Based Therapist

Why Provide Services in School?

Students receiving therapy within the school are much more likely to consistently participate in treatment than those who must travel to an outside facility during after school hours. School based therapists capitalize on students’ existing academic and social networks and are able to observe and treat clients within their natural environment.

“Having a school based therapist gives our students a place to process their problems and learn productive coping strategies. Our parents have a safe place to discuss their issues and learn ways to more effectively deal with their children. Our teachers have a way to help the children by sending them to a knowledgeable, caring therapist.”
- Elementary School Principal

  • Individual Therapy
  • Play Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
